It’s hard to imagine putting the words elegant and graffiti in the same sentence, but there’s truly no other way to describe the recent mural installation done outside the highly selective, totally discrete, and truly elegant members only No. 8 in Chelsea.
Commissioned by artists Zac Buehner and Jason Castro, No. 8, a private social club run by Amy Sacco and Bobby Rossi of LDV Hospitality, added to it’s completely non descript façade last week with a piece of real artwork. Inspired by New York’s massive graffiti scene, and the private social clubs red hot Californian history, (the namesake of the club is the bungalow of the Beverly Hills Hotel), Buehner and Castro set up scaffolding for two days crafting the piece. Large gold and orange palm leaves overlap and drip down the inlay of the front of the building, mimicking the elegance of the interior and the trees inside.
To celebrate this addition to the already supreme club, No. 8, The Committee, and Red Bull hosted an altogether smashing party in the spaces’ gorgeous Ballroom and Rec Room, after the artists finished the 2-day installation. Guests were privy to the energy drink and DJ spinning the Rec Room’s extensive vinyl collection under the red light, palms, and crystal chandelier of the Ballroom.
The once discrete exterior now gives any common pedestrian a glimpse into No. 8’s ‘California’ cool interior and scandalous history, that’s lacking in the dreary concrete jungle it surrounds.
