KARSH GOES HOLLYWOOD: REVISITING HOLLYWOOD'S GOLDEN AGE

November 19, 2014 3:23 PM

Old Hollywood is new again at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.  Titled Karsh Goes Hollywood, the MFA’s latest exhibit pulls stills from legendary celebrity photographer Yousuf Karsh to put stars from Hollywood’s Golden Age on display.  Select images from Karsh’s life-long career showcase twenty iconic stars at their prime in striking black and white photographs.  Among the famous celebrity sitters are Audrey Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart, Judy Garland, Princess Grace of Monaco, Clark Gable, Gregory Peck, Elizabeth Taylor, Joan Crawford, and many more.

While the faces may be familiar to viewers, the names of the actors, actresses, directors, and producers from Hollywood’s Golden Age are not displayed by the photos. First-time curator James Leighton puts a twist on the show by excluding the famous names and inviting viewers to test their knowledge.  In lieu of customary labels, the photos are captioned with quotes from the celebrity or from a famous character they portrayed.

Karsh Goes Hollywood is on display until March 8, 2015.
