The first Spring/Summer Roberto Cavalli campaign developed under the creative direction of former menswear designer, Paul Surridge, proves to be a delivery on his promise to firmly bring the brand into the present. The English designer came as an unexpected choice to take the reins of Cavalli’s flamboyance and flair, but the collection brings a visual breath of fresh air with simple Florentine elegance and a subdued take on the signature contrasting animal print.
"I talked about bringing the brand into a relevant place for 2018,” Surridge explained to Vogue back in September, "and that for me was about enlarging the offer.” Focusing on the multifaceted lifestyle of the bold woman, the imagery used in the advertisement pays homage both to the beauty of nature and to the natural beauty of women.
Zoe Ghertner shot the campaign in the rugged desert setting of Simi Valley, California, and the use of natural light provided soft shading for the featured feminine silhouettes. In producing the campaign, Surridge comments that an all-female team allowed for a more authentic interpretation of "the fiercely independent Roberto Cavalli woman,” and the house has delivered this message loud and clear.
The Roberto Cavalli Spring/Summer 2018 advertising campaign will make its debut in the March issue of international fashion publications.
