MIU MIU "ROOM303" BY Alasdair McLellan
By emulating an all familiar, oversaturated photographic aesthetic—those snaps of friends in the club, a family packed in a restaurant booth, an evening traversing the city, or an illuminated sea of hands with glittering accessories and glowing drinks—the new Automne 2017 Miu Miu advertising campaign, shot by Alasdair McLellan, seeks to meditate on the “transience of youth.” It is the campaign’s candid, oft amateurish method in which the photos are taken that reminds us of the not quite non-extant days of composition.
The portraits, which evoke pre-night-out fun, frame young women– models Samantha Archibald, Iesha Hodges, Lily Nova and actress Jaime King– embellished in shimmering stones, studs, and pumps, with leather bags to compliment. The varied styles not only emphasize femininity and friendship, but also the limitlessness influence that youth’s transience provides for fashion.
We are intrigued to see where the campaign will fit as it joins the vast world of images, as well as if Miuccia Prada’s meditation on the current state of contemporary image-making will serve as inspiration for a new wave approach to fashion and photography.
