The Miu Miu Girl has always been bolder and sexier than her patrician elder sister, the Prada Girl. And indeed the label, which was named after Miuccia Prada's childhood monicker, has become the manifestation of a globe-trotting, fun-loving woman of style and means. In the Miu Miu Fall 2017 campaign, we find our girl kicking up her furry, jeweled heels in the Big Easy, flanked by the Preservation Hall Brass Band, and you best believe that she is bolder and sexier than ever.
The eclectic opulence of the Miu Miu collection was brought to life by British photographer Alasdair McLellan (who made his name shooting edgy beauties and gritty street scenes at i-D magazine, and has since gone on to do campaigns for Louis Vuitton, Calvin Klein and H&M). For Miu Miu, McLellan shot a troupe of lovelies which includes a wistfully elegant Kate Moss, the luminous award-winning actress Naomie Harris (Moonlight), and the UK's answer to Gigi and Bella Hadid: sister modeling duo Adwoa and Kesewa Aboah.
The campaign was shot both inside the Preservation Hall in New Orleans, and outdoors among the forlorn vegetation of the bayou, and both locations offer an atmospheric backdrop to a collection which does not neglect the Miu Miu penchant for unexpected juxtapositions. Bright faux furs against a translucent sheath. A snake print clutch with an opulent crystal buckle. Delicate powder-print day-gowns with showstopper chandelier earrings. For the Miu Miu girl, yellow goes with red goes with purple. And beige suede go-go boots are the perfect accompaniment to a lavender print ensemble. The Miu Miu girl never asks, "Is this crystal headpiece too much for this blue faux fur?" Because she already knows that too much is never enough. And when everything clashes just right, your ensemble du jour is an objet d'art.
