MARC by MARC JACOBS RTW FALL’ 13
Iconic designer Marc Jacobs unveiled his Marc by Marc Jacobs AW’13 collection at New York's Fashion Week. The tents at Lincoln Center came alive during the Monday slot he normally allocates for his main line collection. The new Marc by Marc Jacobs’s man and woman he presented was an unprecedentedly cosmopolitan and sophisticated collection that was tailored to perfection.
This Marc by Marc Jacobs collection turned the runway into one of those retro glam ad agency office hallways from the seventies. The women were draped in swing coats, high-waisted cropped bell-bottom pants, skirts, and cozy knit dresses. Retro patterns, a long-time signature of the Marc by Marc Jacobs diffusion line returned, but this time coupled with dramatic curls and bright red lip styling. He exemplifies the modern-day working woman. The men were decked out in loose-fitting suits, turtlenecks and patterned shirts. One model even wore a complete lustrous red shirt and pantsuit reminiscent of those pajamas that Kim Jones sent down the men’s Louis Vuitton runway in February (and that Jacobs hasn’t been seen out of).
The handbags, which compliment the collection’s maturation, resembled proper luggage with round cases and structured “suitcase” bags - small handles for in-hand strutting. The men carried sophisticated tartan print totes that swung at their ankles. All these garments and accessories are on our must-have list for fall.
Overall each piece embodied a subdued, graceful and responsible look. The once youthful Marc by Marc Jacobs clan now gains a bit of responsibility (or at least that’s what their clothes say but we know these individuals will always be young at heart).
