Summer is over; and it’s time to pack away the picnic blankets and fill the days with new activities. The romance of spending the day at a museum just became the best take yourself on a date excursion; well really take a date with Mr Christian Dior. Run don’t walk to the Designer of dreams exhibition by Christian Dior at the Brooklyn Museum from September 10th through to February 20th 2022.
The dream was first put on display for all the dreamers in Paris at the musèe des Arts with not surprisingly huge success.
But don’t worry this dream was not a one night wonder that every time you close your eyes you wish to relive. This dream has been reinvented by the curator Florence Müller partnered with Matthew Yokobosky.
You will walk through a journey of the minds of the Houses incredible artistic directors, such as Yves Saint Laurent who spent two years learning from Christian Dior, which lead to him being the first successor after Christians death in 1957. The exhibition also takes one into the eyes of Galliano, Raf Simmons and Maria Grazia Chiuri, through a new scenographic narrative. This will include silhouettes on display for the very first time alongside works from the Brooklyn Museums own collection; creating a complete transformation to the architecturally beautiful Beaux-arts court designed by Mckim, mead and white in 1983.
The opening night was held on September 8th; a starry night full of stars. In both sense of the word. With stars of extreme versatility but shining stars none the less including the original haute couture guests such as Maria Grazia Chiuri herself, Olivia Palermo, Frederick Fekkai and Derek Blasberg to the starlets of the moment including Yara Shahidi and Thomas Doherty, even social media fashionistas such as Christie Tyler and Tina Leung.
It was the place to be; and still is every day until February 20th.
