Christian Siriano ”My Fair Lady” NYFW F/W2014 READY-TO-WEAR at a glance

Who doesn’t love a sophisticated lady, wide brimmed hat tipped to one side, wasp waste dress, heels, and a whole lot of class. Our fashion pendulum has gone through decades of the power tailored cuts and revealing gowns, strong and sexy as they are, there is something nostalgic and dream like about the mid century women with her white gloves and perfectly crossed legs. That may explain our country’s Hepburn-esque obsession and why Christian Siriano used Lisa Fonssagrives-Penn as the sole inspiration for this fall’s collection.
The theme was texture and light, like the late model/dancer’s photos shot by her two husbands Fernand Fonssagrives and Irving Penn. There were rounded shoulders on oversized alpaca coats in rich teal and dark plums, shiny almost bouncy fabrics on classic swoop necks and peplums, and a finale of pieces inlayed with feather. Our personal favorite was a white turtleneck gown; form fitting and light, with a long gorgeous train. The mid century dame doesn’t need to show skin to spell seduction, she seduces with class, elegance and a little dose of properness.
