2013 Metropolitan Museum of Art Apollo Circle Benefit
Last Thursday night, the bright young things of New York City ascended the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the 10th annual Apollo Circle Fund for Art Conservation Benefit.
This year’s theme, “Behind the Seams,” was in reference to the museum’s current exhibition, “Interwoven Globe: The Worldwide Textile Trade, 1500-1800,” and was sponsored by the socially-conscious indie label Maiyet.
“When the Met called, the fit was so natural,” said Paul van Zyl, the brand’s cofounder with Kristy Caylor. “The exhibition is about the ways in which design has influence across continents, and the way that the skills of artisans have been valued and recognized. That really encapsulates everything that Maiyet is about.”
Once inside the doors of the museum, guests were escorted through the halls of the Sackler Wing, and into the venue space, the 2,000 year old Egyptian Temple of Dendur, which had been visually transformed to suit the occasion. Vases arranged with feathers dotted the main space, while projections displaying traditional textiles and fabrication methods called attention to the Maiyet brand.
Guests included Jessica Joffe, Amanda Hearst, Bettina Prentice, sisters Lauren and Ashley Platt, Alexi Ashe, and Twelv’s own Stephen Fisher.
As the night progressed, guests moved to the sounds of Ace of Base, Michael Jackson and Fleetwood Mac, mixed by DJ Brendan Fallis, closing out another successful event, and leaving guests looking forward to next year’s fete.
