TWELV sits down with founders of Parlor Social Club Jan Cieslikiewicz and Frederick Ghartey to give a glimpse into the story of co-founders living in New York City.
Blog party: There is no such thing as your instinct
Julia Lang is the 25 year old blogger behind www.geeksndfashion.com. She currently resides in Berlin, Germany but calls Machame, in Tanzania, Africa, home.
Departmentstore Quartier 206 opened on Berlin's Friedrichstrasse in 1997. "I had a precise idea of my ideal-shopping-destination," said founder and owner Anne Maria Jagdfeld, "and travelled around the world for months to buy all the products for my department store."
With her interior design company "jagdfeld design", she created an elegant and cosmopolitan world of shopping featuring international designer fashion, couture, leading avant garde designers, "in" labels and young contemporary fashion, accessories, cosmetics, jewelry, books, art, flowers, and interior design. Departmentstore Quartier 206 does not merely offer its customers fashion, but a complete lifestyle in 2,500 square meters of retail space.
Three days after I moved over to Berlin, a new chapter in my career began. I started my new job at the Departmentstore Quartier 206. To be honest with you, it was the only job I applied for since I decided to leave London and get settled in Berlin for good. Some call it naive, others call it risky. But I knew that I wanted to have that exact job, at that exact store, at that exact moment. And somehow, my instinct told me it was the right thing to do.
I got the offer for the job during the interview which is super rare and it got me even more excited. After almost a month at my new job, I was glad that I indubitably believed in my instinct. Each and every one of you should do exactly the same. We all have our instincts for some reason.
To work with brands like Céline, Dries van Noten, Isabel Marant, Alexander Wang, and Lanvin just to name a few, is the best work environment I could ever ask for.
The last 4 weeks in Berlin were an adventurous time. A time that made me happy. Berlin is such a cool city with even cooler people and places to see.
Whenever you visit the beautiful Berlin, make sure to visit the Departmentstore / Cabinet, Quartier 206. You won't regret it!
Ah, and don't forget to say "Hi" to me.
