Blog party: Nautical but Nice
My name is Joanne Hegarty and I write the blog, Ballet Pumps And Roses, which has daily posts on living stylishly through fashion, interiors and food. I'm based in London and have worked in newspapers and magazines as a journalist for ten years.
I would love for you to drop by and say hello!
I moved to London 18 months ago when I married an English gentleman and decided that it was finally time to unpack my suitcase and lay down some roots. Before this I had been working as a journalist covering red carpet and fashion events and was commuting to London every second weekend. It was manically busy but finally something had to give!
Now I am happily stationary in one of the busiest fashion capitals of the world. I am never bored and constantly inspired by what is happening around me culturally and aesthetically.
As well as freelancing as a journalist, I am now blogging full time about my true passions in life: fashion, interiors and food.
I began my beloved Ballet Pumps And Roses very shortly after I moved and in a way it helped me to settle in to my new home and to unleash my creative side.
People often ask me where the name for my blog came from. Well, the answer is that I think the essence of chicness is simplicity and I admire the effortless style that many London girls who love wearing these beautiful shoes possess. And, what is more elegant than a rose…?
My daily posts share my tips on how to live stylishly from what I wear, cook and how I decorate my home.
I am a collector of beautiful things, and here I am in the photo wearing this wrap-around nautical DVF dress which is a firm favorite of mine. It reminds me of adventures I've experienced on travels past and promises me when I'm bored of being stationary that more jolly sojourns are yet to come.
Anytime I travel a long distance, I like to put this investment piece on and accessorize it according to my mood. I'm a big fan of nautical patterns and the instant I set eyes on this on the catwalk in a fashion show with its sailor ropes, I was hooked and had to discover it for myself. There is something eternally classic about a wrap-around and it can be worn to so many special occasions.
I hope one day that I can pass this on to my own daughter as “a vintage piece” and she too will sail away on many more adventures wearing it.
I chose on this occasion to pair it with bold red wedges and a rustic orange bag designed by Coccinelle to give it some extra attitude. I have a few expensive pieces in my wardrobe which I call my investments and I can always rely on them to steer me in the right direction.
