Midsummer's Daydream: A Video Playlist
Not sure what your summer should look like? Well neither are we, but we've assembled five new music videos filled to the brim with sunny, stylish escapades. Take notes, and try this at home!
1. Florence + the Machine | "Breaking Down"
If this sun-drenched clip from our favorite UK songstress isn't quintessential summer, you'll be hard pressed to find it. Directed by Tabitha Denholm (a frequent Florence collaborator), the video features Louisiana marching bands, pool-side lounging, and a vintage-clad Flo, making this Super 8 selection a perfect visual aid for your days in the rays. Wear your sunscreen!
Ceremonials is out now via Island Records.
2. Teen | "Better"
"I'll do it better than anyone else", chant the girls of new Brooklyn-based pop group Teen - and they have video footage to prove it. This lo-fi assemblage is as warm and friendly as Teen's DIY music, and shows us how to do a New York summer just right. Besides, there's nothing that a trip to Coney Island can't fix.
In Limbo is available via Carpark records August 28th.
3. Thieves Like Us | "Shyness"
In this sensual clip, Irwin Barbe remixes footage from Director Roy Andersson's 1970 film "A Swedish Love Story". Watch a pack of alarmingly mature tweens as they fight, kiss, and smoke their way through the countryside. Thieves Like Us lay their European grooves beneath this sombre video. While you were stuck at sleep-away camp, these kids were rocking leather jackets and riding motorcycles.
Bleed Bleed Bleed is out now via Captured Tracks.
4. Opossom | "Fly"
The latest video from New Zealand's Kody Nielson will leave you with the urge for a good hike. Director Sam Kristofski mixes gorgeous sweeping panoramas with comical spy-movie cuts as a pair of be-spectacled geeks investigate some sci-fi business. Even if you don't have the hills of Southern New Zealand at hand, Opossom's meticulously-crafted pop gems are perfect for your outdoor excursion.
Electric Hawaii is out August 7th.
5. JEFF The Brotherhood | "Sixpack"
Is it so hot? Let Nashville's JEFF The Brotherhood guide you down to the river with their booze-soaked, fuzz-rock anthem. In this clip from Elise Tyler and Michael Carter, the band collect their friends, their beers, and their canoes, and seize the wet hot american summer. But the party doesn't sleep with the sun, and the love fest continues beneath illuminated trees. All because someone bought beer.
Hypnotic Nights is available July 17th via Infinity Cat.
