SMELLING THE FUTURE: BLACK LABEL BY Y-3

After a celebrated 10 years of collaborating, Yohji Yamamoto and Adidas take their partnership on a new venture.  The announcement of Y-3’ first fragrance, Black Label, will take place on January 19, 2013 during the highly anticipated men’s fashion week in Paris.

Mr. Yamamoto reveals, “Making perfume is a huge difference from designing clothes. It involves so many people and advices. But in the end you have to seduce the senses;” he achieves this with his fragrance Black Label.

The scent first grabs you with a combination of cardamon, elemi and Tagete, inducing a masculine aroma: woody with a mild spice, slightly nutty with subtle citrus undertones.  The body of the cologne delivers a harmony of  Virginia cedar wood with light touches of Lavadin surrounded by the warmth of black pepper.  The powerful finish of Patchouli, Vetiver, and Tonka Bean add a hint of the earth blended with scents of cinnamon and clover.  The complex layering of these aromas gives the fragrance it’s unique personality.

Reflecting on his relationship with Adidas, Mr. Yamamoto explains, “Ten years ago, together with Adidas, we created something that did not exist before, and we completely projected the future.  My desire was and is to make sportswear elegant and chic.  Adidas has always been a very personal inspiration to me, and it continues to enrich my creative life.”
