It’s campaign season again, that phenomenal time when each brand is able to translate their current season’s runway outings into artful, almost editorial-esque images that capture the collection’s...
NEW YORK FASHION WEEK SURVIVAL GUIDE
Last year, I moved from London to New York and experienced my first New York Fashion Week. It was everything I wanted and more as promised by this great city’s fashion world. The clothes, the front row, the parties, the no cabs, the bleeding feet. Oh the glamour. In the fast paced excitement of it all, I was far too excited to think practically (bad shoes, no Band-Aid). So, with F/W’14 fast approaching, and lessons being truly learnt from last time around - here is my survival guide of necessities to help keep you happy, healthy, and organized this fashion week.
1. Wolford, Winter Soft Logic tights, $60 - No matter how hard we try to avoid them, runs in your tights do happen. Keep a pair of back up tights just in case your outfit calls for them and disheveled isn’t the look you’re going for.
2. Coconut Water, $5 - This helps to beat the fashion fatigue by staying well hydrated.
3. Tom Ford Lip lacquer, $32 - An all rounder lip lacquer. Use on bare lips for a sophisticated look, or over the top of your lipstick of the day for that deeply sexy sheen.
4. Smythson Runway textured leather notebook, $135 - You need to take notes? Could there be a more appropriate notepad?
5. Liberty Structured Tote Bag, $1350 - A decent sized bag is the basics for good survival during fashion week. Demanding to be noticed on the front row, this magenta and tangerine shopper style tote is both stylish and practical. Ideal size for essentials listed.
6. Band-Aid Advanced Healing Blister Cushions, Approx. $5.99 - Arguably the MOST important thing in the survival kit. Running around in your finest heels usually means that while you’re looking smoking hot, you’re crying on the inside because can no longer feel your feet. Keep your inner you happy just by having a box of these close by. You can thank me later.
7. mophie Juice Pack Reserve for iPhone and iPod, $34.95 - It is a fact that your phone will die at one point during the week, just before you really need to take that runway photo/send that email. Stay prepared and connected with this mophie juice battery pack.
8. Kora Revitalizing Body Pack, $199.95 - Running around all day for a week can take its toll on your body. This one stop shop pack has it all: Exfoliating cream, Essential Body Wash, Roseship Body Oil and Enriched Body Lotion for that all over body glow.
9. Roland Mouret, Douglas D-frame sunglasses, $320 - Sunglasses are a must for that too-cool-for-school-leaving-the-Lincoln-Centre look.
10. Ruffle Silk Eyemask, Agent Provocateur, $90 - Any help with getting a few minutes extra beauty sleep is a winner in my book. Start the day off right by waking up when you want and not to that first crack of dawn light.
11. Saint Laurent Enveloppe iPad Sleeve, $425 Whether you’re using it to take notes, pictures or just to play candy crush during the down time, show your iPad some love with this accessible and stylish leather Saint Laurent case.
12. Charles Philip Shanghai. Inna polka dot canvas point toe flats, $195 - When you’ve run out of Band-Aids and you cannot hail a cab for love nor money after the last show, you’ll thank yourself silly that you’re able to change into these stylish and handy flats.
13. Burberry Signature Grain Leather Card Case, $265 - They say it’s who you know - so make the right impression handing out those business cards with this nifty little leather card holder.
14. Shiseido Pure Retinol Intensive Revitalizing Face Mask, $63 - Fashion Week = Fashion parties. Lots of fashion parties. By the end of the week you may not be feeling fresh and radiant, but you can make sure you still look it with this concentrated treatment mask.
