An endless source of inspiration for designers and creators globally, Japanese culture remains a hub of regal beauty and tradition. The fusion of old-world customs and new technological advances is a hallmark of modern day Tokyo. And this rings true in a new exhibit called KIMONO ROBOTO, where 13 meticulously crafted kimonos will be on display in a spectacular production composed by world- renowned artists and photographers. Japanese Living National Treasures and Imperial Family-appointed artisans applied century-old weaving techniques to each kimono, and the result was a set of stunning museum-quality art pieces. The entire exhibit is a celebration of the kimono's heritage and legacy in Japanese history filtered through a contemporary lens as evident by the notable artists who contributed in the presentation of the exhibition, including photographer Peter Lindbergh, producer Alexandre de Betak and photographer Koichiro Doi.
The opening event drew a slew of art connoisseurs and fashion heavyweights such as Kate Moss, former Lanvin creative director Alber Elbaz and Louis Vuitton's Kim Jones. The night was headlined by the premier of Icelandic superstar Björk's latest music video in which she wears the Furisode Kimono with Tabane Noshi Design. Dubbed the “master of masterpieces,” this kimono is central to the exhibit and took artisans an astounding two years to create. The exhibition is produced by Melco Resorts & Entertainment as a passion project to honor and celebrate the heritage, culture and arts of Japan. Tokyo-goers, be sure to stop by the spectacle before December 10th.
