Gucci and Mickey are the new duo on the scene. Beating Batman and Robbin to the frontline, the duo together have created a collection of dream worthy nostalgia.
Ever have serious envy at all the children able to adorn themselves in Disney attire? Wanted to do the same but needed to keep up chic appearance. Well now thanks to Gucci, you can prepare to drape yourself in the chicest Disney wear. To celebrate the year of the mouse in Chinese New Year; Alessandro Michele had the brilliant idea of partnering with Disney to create a themed collection on none other than the famous Mickey Mouse. The collection features not only bags, shoes and accessories but also clothing intertwining the classic Gucci style with everything mouse themed. A key new piece to watch out for is the new material; the GG supreme canvas print with Mickey mouse patterned in. The fabric keeps the classic Gucci beige and ebony tones with the vintage GG print partnered with its new best friend Mickey. This fabric is in reference to the original house print from the 80’s, repurposed and modernised with digital printing and coating. Gucci knows how to bring the classics into the new.
The collection overall is lighthearted and in true Gucci style sees a vintage note and timeless essence to all the pieces. Make every street your own personal Disney land; picture yourself skipping with joy into the day with classic Gucci 1977 trainers with Mickeys face drawing eyes to your feet. Or perhaps on a breezy day wearing one of the most favoured from the collection; the mickey jacquard jumper. Accessories are a huge front runner of this collection with the mini GG supreme handbag with the Disney logo featured along with a new must watch; the bucket bag with a giant Mikey front and centre. Take off into the skies with Mikey as your travel partner with the luggage collection featuring two backpacks, a large tote and round shoulder bag along with both soft and hard luggage sets.
Alessandro combined the archival patterns with perfectly contrasting Disney true original, with a selection on silk accessories for women. The adored and already mesmerising flora pattern gets a reboot by Disney with birds, flowers and mushrooms. Feel like you are literally in a Disney movie. I know I also had that dream once too. Men don’t need to feel left out nor do their heads with a baseball cap and a fedora both featuring leather interlocking GG tags. For jewellery, Mickey features on sterling silver pieces and a Gucci boule chain bracelet, which as with most of pieces is inspired by another epic Gucci archive. Finally, Gucci couldn’t do a collection without a set of 70’s sleek sunglasses. This collection features a pair of vintage style, round lensed sunglasses coming in both the most beautiful pink nude and white pearl. My eyes are drooling if that were possible. The effect is perfect, feminine and 70s.
Women’s ready to wear sees everything from tops to knitwear, featuring classic Gucci stand out colour motifs and elegant jacquard prints with a perfectly cuddle worthy silk wool base. The silk cream blouse splashed with colourful Mikey’s covering one’s torso was a personal stand out for me. Menswear also see’s colourful prints, embroidered patches and of course Mouse galore. My eyes were drawn to the perfect winter green jumper toting mickeys face and stars to perfect the cosy piece. Every women’s and men’s ready-to-wear item in the Chinese New Year collection will be sold with a special green label featuring Mickey Mouse and “Disney x Gucci” text. The beauty doesn’t stop with the clothing, The Chinese New Year collection specially designed packaging with red tissue paper and fabric pouches emblazoned with Mickey Mouse. And on an epic ending note be sure to check out the Gucci app, where you can bring Mickey mouse to life. Yes, that’s correct; to life! Applause to Gucci, you have done it again.
