NO LAPTOP NO PROBLEM
It’s a revealing moment when you’ve had X amount of drinks, and you feel so confident, so blissful that you request a song. “Play some fucking Beyonce”, yelled a friend of mine from an empty dancefloor at a very cool and very boring rooftop-party in London. Needless to say, the DJ did not play some fucking Beyonce.
On one of my last nights in New York, Bec Adams requested Tears for Fears’ classic Everybody Wants To Rule The World. Because she is so charming, the DJ obliged.
Help me make the most of freedom and of pleasure

I was very hungover the next day, and the bitter-sweet goodbye, naturally, felt heavier. With that wave of instant nostalgia one feels with the dénouement of a holiday, I put the song on repeat, and thought about the playlist of songs that made the background of Bec’s life over my last two weeks with her. We’d cook to Alice Coltrane, we’d get ready to some kind of 80s Chicago house and disco/funk, we’d fall asleep to ‘Harvest Moon’ by Jane Birkin. That is to say, her musical sensibilities are wide and open-minded, shaped by her pianist Mother, record-collecting father and the natural curiosity that defines her. When I’d get home from whatever I was doing that day, she'd be sitting there like my Mum, telling me about what song she was listening to, what book she was reading. There is a piano in her bedroom, there are many records, and there is always music.
Deriving from her inherent world of music, Bec has naturally and quickly become one of New York’s an up-and-coming DJs. She is creating culture shifts for ethereal parties - parties boasting only good music, namely disco and funk from the 70s and 80s (you will not find any top 40 here). You will never find Bec with a laptop; only CDs and Vinyl. MOMS is her latest creation alongside friends Rebekah Campbell, Michael Scanlon & Zan Goodman. Please go to MOMs because I can’t. Dance to her well-rounded selection of funk & disco music. You will likely see her in the corridor, she will offer you helpful advice like, drink mescal instead! It is made from the Agave plant which is purer! I have a poor diet and drink impure drinks; usually, I’d dismiss such advice as voodoo, but you know, she’s right actually. You will have less of a hangover. Listen to Bec, in every sense of the word.
