Balenciaga Hits the Red Carpet for the Summer 22 Collection
Balenciaga presented its Summer 22 collection on the red carpet with a film premier of The Simpsons I Balenciaga. The show consisted of two parts including a Hollywood-style red carpet photocall and a movie screening. Balenciaga’s friends, models and team showed up wearing the Summer 22 collection in a role reversal of the audience becoming the protagonist. This symbolized the design house shifting away from easily defined categories in a push to blur boundaries between fashion and other forms of entertainment, culture and technology. The collection included everything from streetwear, day wear, evening wear and proto-couture pieces. The silhouettes ranged from super slim to severely oversized. Accessories played a large part including new innovations and updates of some classics. Balenciaga paired up with Crocs to debut the “hard” crocs platform with silver metal adornments. The Balenciaga space shoe also made an appearance, made of entirely sustainable EVA material, it is a single mold shoe with the lines of the classic derby style. The chunky sneaker lives on in the Balenciaga version made with extreme tire treads known as the Defender. Other shoe styles included the Cagole boot which is the footwear version of the best-selling Cagole bags and also Trump L’oeil boots that look like stiletto sandals worn over a sock. The Balenciaga hourglass bag gets a face lift by filling in the negative spaces to create a new silhouette for the XX bag. The triplet bag reconfigured the popular chain purse. The brand commits to responsible production by upcycling textiles, using plant-based leathers and choosing sustainable fabrics.
