In Italian, ‘Ricostru’ means ‘reconstruction,’ but designer Rico Manchit Au was constructing an entirely new notion of designer Chinese fashion when she launched her label in 2011.
Manish Arora: Creative Director for Paco Rabanne
Manish Arora, a fashion designer known for his wild prints, bright psychedelic colors, and over the top looks, was appointed the creative director of Paco Robanne early last year. Starting his career in India in 1997, he launched his namesake label, Manish Arora. Three years later through his participation in the first-ever India Fashion Week, he became known for his magical and “high drama” design aesthetic. Also founding a second label in 2011 called “Fish Fry,” a contemporary take on sportswear through a partnership with Reebok. His success continued to skyrocket as the international community began to take notice of his talent. Winning an award for Best Women’s Pret Designer at the India Fashion Awards in 2004 and later the Best Collection award in Miami Fashion Week in 2005.
Fast-forward to Spring 2012, Arora showcased his first collection for Paco Rabanne. The models descended down escalators, then strutted the runway in metal pins, chains, squares of silvery snakeskin, exaggerated hips, and pointed shoulders; creating a fashion forward look. Pulling inspiration from the archives of Paco Rabanne’s 1960’s shows for his F/W 2012 show; the collection had a muted color palette, and strong structural elements. Featuring drop-waist dresses, pant suits, jumpsuits and sweaters, it was an incredibly wearable collection. The perfect way to continue to revamp the brand, yet pay homage to Paco Rabanne, the future of Manish at the label is just as bright as some of his designs!
