VALENTINO F/W2014 COUTURE COLLECTION

This Haute Couture season seemed to be the occasion for referencing the past. MARIA GRAZIA CHIURI and PIER PAOLO PICCIOLI, creative directors of VALENTINO continued the trend with their Raphaelite collection. The 61-look runway show embodied a calm, serene, innocent nature. Black and gold prints of wheat against white, floor-length gowns and 21st- century interpretations of 19th-century Roman togas walked the runway. This Roman inspiration was also seen in the styling. The models wore knee-high gladiator sandals, a low curly ponytail, and minimalist make-up, which gave the girls an angelic quality. The rawness and earthiness of the collection was impeccable and CHIURI and PICCIOLI even managed to make leather strapping, seen on gowns and embroidered coats, appear soft. The real stars of the show were effortlessly gorgeous chiffon gowns. They moved with ease, bellowing in the air as the models walked the forested runway. These chiffon beauties particularly captured fluidity that the VALENTINO brand is known for. Draped asymmetrical dresses, in yellow, baby blue, and white and mid-night blue broadened the range of the collection’s silhouettes and continued the facility of the show.
In the front row were KIM KARDASHIAN WEST, EMMA WATSON, and VALENINO GARAVANI naturally. All the guests were treated with the delights of the romantic, pagan-inspired collection. One that will easily be stain in our memories come September.
