PRADA'S BLOSSOMING SS'13 CAMPAIGN

Miuccia Prada is always fascinated with the conflicting components that surmise contemporary femininity: the freedoms of modernity flush with the constraints of upholding rigid traditions. This season, to translate these complex tensions to the aesthetic realm of sartorial expression, Prada used stark, streamlined simplicity and punctured it with pops of personalized flare. Take, for example, the modernly minimal shapes in her duchesse satin separates featuring inset flowered panels, or the cartoonish floriated mink wraps and tops. Each pairing poses questions to how the contemporary Prada woman imagines herself. The answer: in her own unique way, confident with her own individuality.
To showcase these obtuse concepts for the brand’s most recent campaign, Prada enlisted Steven Meisel to photograph intimate portraits of eleven models (Vanessa Axente, Saskia de Brauw, Irina Kravchenko, Eva Herzigova, Sung Hee, Irene Hiemstra, Kirsten Owen, Sasha Pivovarova, Amber Valletta, Maartje Verhoef & Raquel Zimmerman). Set over uncompromising backgrounds of muted grey or jet-black, each model’s eclectic attitude on feminine beauty blossoms. Pair this with the juxtaposition of full-length shots and cropped close-ups, and Miuccia added a final aesthetically adroit layer to convey the nature and complexity of the new Prada woman.
