PRADA F/W2015 READY-TO-WEAR

If an alien race from the future designed a human clothing line and had only the show Mad Men to use for a reference, the results would probably be akin to Prada’s AW15 collection. Fifties/sixties styling, thick, foam-esque neon suits, and fur-infused multi-color tweed pea coats glided down the runway, treating viewers to a psychedelic, futuristic experience.
Textures started out soft with the double-breasted jacket/pants/bag combinations, transitioning to rough as the coats and dresses passed. Bumpy leather, large bow accents and massive floral brooches challenged the eyes, never giving onlookers a chance to settle into a specific look.
The bold use of color and pattern was astounding, managing to translate effectively without appearing overdone. A lime green coat with blue pixelated water drop patterns was paired with a fire truck red skirt and metallic blue collared shirt. The same pixelated pattern - ubiquitous throughout the show - appeared on a baby blue skirt supporting an alligator-green jacket and blue/grey mittens (possibly oven mitts, I’m not sure.)
Tailoring was heavily varied, appearing tight and fitted in the early looks and providing wider silhouettes as the dresses arrived.
The footwear was a highlight of the show, ranging from intergalactic sneaker/loafer hybrids to demure gloss black heels. The two-tone look was prevalent, manifesting in pairings like pastel pink soles/gloss gold tops and grey soles/oxblood uppers.
Prada’s penchant for androgyny was certainly present, but it was juxtaposed by intense, confident femininity. The results were striking and refreshingly unique. Check out the images on your right and decide for yourself whether Prada’s AW15 collection is a hit or a miss.
