Luxury German watchmaker Nomos Glashütte has been in the market for 25 years now, but it didn’t take nearly that long for their design team to realize that the average watch consumer is in fact not an astronaut, nor are they embarking on a deep sea dive or planning their ascent to the summit of Mt. Everest, as the proliferation of bulky, heavy duty luxury watches might suggest. That’s not to say the ultra-thin Nomos watches can’t resist the forces. In fact, most of their watches are waterproof and can withstand 30 meters of depth with some styles persisting in as deep as 200 meters.
The brand prides itself in it’s minimal design, high quality, and technical prowess (even the watch movements are developed and produced in-house). The same is true for their latest men’s collection, designed with the city-dwelling, office-working “everyday” person in mind, hence it’s title “At Work.” In fact, their New York City preview of the “At Work” collection was aptly debuted in an upscale co-working space in Midtown. The watches were presented with white gloves, and some were digested into glass trays revealing their minuscule interior components. And while automatic watches generally pose the challenge of size, requiring a greater thickness in order to accommodate the bulkier interior movements, Nomos produces both their manual and automatic watches in shockingly thin cases. The sleek line of watches are unobtrusive– even easily forgotten– when worn on the wrist, making the perfect timepieces for work, commuting, and everyday life.
The collection is comprised of 14 handmade styles featuring 39 millimeter diameters. Most of the styles, including their award-winning “Metro,” first introduced in 2014, are available in several dial variations. While the collection is thin enough to fit under a shirt cuff, finishes such as brushed metal (termed "silvercut") are also perfectly suited for a more casual work environment. Precision, innovation, and an eye for sharp elegance remain at the core of Nomos, and the same can be said for their latest lineup. Be sure to check out the stunning new "At Work" collection in select retailers, or online at the premier men's e-retailer Mr. Porter.
