The runway is a facade for designers to stage their vision, the strictly choreographed back-and-forth of models shinning a never-ending flow of clothes.

Miuccia Prada’s Paris Fashion Week offering was an exercise in pattern awareness. There was nary a solid color in any of the looks, nor was there any indication that they were supposed to be taken too seriously. There was sarcasm in the obnoxiously dyed snakeskin coats and the baffling combinations of patterns, but it was tempered by the apparent brilliance of the collection as a whole. The looks were all so intense and decidedly playful: the kind of fashion that reminds you how much fun the industry can be.
The emphasis was on pattern throughout the show. Hounds tooth was prevalent, finding itself combined with cheetah print and plaid, among others. The coats, however, stole the show. An absurdly blue cheetah print rain jacket with a grey snakeskin collar preceded a blood red snakeskin iteration. This serpentine outerwear also appeared in sunflower yellow, deep orange and jet black. This isn’t exactly a collection to run to for those with modest taste.
Of course, there were more reserved looks, like the Little House On The Prairie blue country dress and the black dress with only accents of blue snakeskin, but they sort of faded into the background next to the louder options.
The collection is pure, unabashed fashion fun from a designer who has her finger on the pulse of the industry. Check out the collection above. Enjoy!
