The Meteorite Collection - David Yurman

TWELV was invited to join experimental jeweler, Evan Yurman, and visionary curator, Neville Wakefield, to celebrate the launch of David Yurman's new collection; THE METEORITE COLLECTION. As the name might suggest, the main focus of this luxurious collection for David Yurman's son was the involvement of celestial matter within the designs.
The event was held at 'Noumenon' - Yurman's design studio in TriBeCa - called such, because the term describes 'the root of something'. It was the perfect setting to showcase the desirable pieces. Low level lighting throughout the venue made sure all eyes were firmly fixated on the lit jewelry, where guests could study the craftsmanship and the natural patterns clearly. Meanwhile, never ending trays of Tequila Patrón cocktails circled the chic meteorite-admiring crowd.
Intrigued with the idea of space, Yurman chose to work with the unearthly material because its "obtainable, beautiful, extraterrestrial and billions and billions of years old." When describing the concept behind the collection, he explains: "It's a token for me to remember, I'm just human. Life is not everlasting. Human's are not everlasting." Metal, however, is.
When stripped bare, this collection is about natural, raw material and time. It's clear that Yurman is passionate about making jewelry that is indisposable and stands the test of time. Combined with his love of expressing where materials are from, this collection is a beautiful and interesting synergy of both.
