Maison Kitsuné’s latest collaboration hit stores on Friday, as the Parisian label teamed up with Korean cult sensation Ader Error for a 15-piece, genderless capsule collection. Ader Error’s cheeky designs have amassed a sizable following on Instagram and now fill an immersive concept store, a new favorite Hongdae shopping destination in Seoul. With the brand’s near meteoric rise in Korea, oft come comparisons to Demna Gvasalia’s Vetements while in fact, both labels were founded at the same time in 2014. The anonymous Ader Error designers are now taking international stage as it is added to a growing list of Kitsuné collaborations.
The seemingly distant collaboration is quickly grounded in a sense of playfulness and youthfulness shared by the brands. Kitsuné verges on the quirkier color way of their classic fox (キツネ) mascot and the collaboration presents a new logo “A KITSUNÉ,” borrowing from Ader Error’s sans serif, tetris logo.
As we saw with the brand’s recent celebration of the NBA, this latest installment also offers a sportier range ancillary to Kitsuné’s seasonal ready-to-wear collections. Standout pieces include a jacquard sweater in retro mint, pink, and mustard yellow stripes; a boxy, white button-down with an oversized pocket and dropped shoulders; and a number of fox-emblazoned tees and sweatshirts. The collaboration boasts accessories such as a baseball cap and knit beanie, tote bags, and a pair of striped red socks with a fox, of course, and an inevitable choice given the Ader Error favorite, socks brazenly printed with “Your Life A Joke."
The collaboration debuted with a launch party at the Maison Kitsuné Flagship, 248 Lafayette St in New York City, along with the release of campaign imagery entitled “Just Twin Girls” and photographed in a most characteristic Parisian hotel, the contrast of which seemed to proffer a clear reminder of Kitsuné’s Paris-meets-Tokyo disposition and undeniable direction brought to the collaboration by the design team behind Ader Error.
Be sure to shop the capsule online at Maison Kitsuné and Ader Error, in both brands retail stores and select stockists.
