Maybe it’s a revolution against the mass produced, easy-on-the-pocket-but-last-for-only-three-washes clothing of the giant high street stores that are standard place in most UK towns (naming no names of course…). Or, maybe it’s down to the environmental and social responsibility of the British style conscious customer, who wants to know that their clobber was made with care and attention and has not travelled further than they have in the past year to arrive in their wardrobes? It may come down to many other factors but, let’s not dwell on the “why” and let’s look at the “what”. Clothes are being made in Britain once more, hoorah! A new crop of labels, with an emphasis on how and where their products are made which is as strong as their emphasis on design have emerged and are hopefully here to stay. Here’s a few that should be on your radar;
Albam
Originally started as an online mail order menswear label in Nottingham in 2007, co-founders Alastair Ray and James Shaw have seen their label expand and they now boast four London stores, the latest of which can be found in Covent Garden. Their simple designs and affordable price tag ethic keeps customers coming back to buy clothing which is mostly produced in the UK, using top quality fabrics and materials.
S.E.H Kelly
S.E.H Kelly epitomizes everything that is great about clothing and accessory manufacturing in Britain. They state; “Materials are sourced from an assortment of top-notch British mills and co-operatives — their provenance running the length and breadth of the Isles. All buttons and trims likewise. Garments are then cut, sewn, and finished by hand.” They have been producing quality garments since 2009 after cutting their teeth on Savile Row and their small runs and attention to detail have sealed this label’s reputation for quality.
Private White
Private Jack White was awarded the Victoria Cross in 1917 and after WWI was over he began an apprenticeship as a pattern cutter in Manchester, before eventually going on to own the factory. His great grandchildren now manufacture garments in the same factory, producing clothes that are inspired by his own military style and created by former Dunhill Menswear designer Nick Ashley.

Cherchbi
Started in 2007 by Adam Atkinson after he decided to try and find a use for discarded wool from Herdwyck sheep, leathergoods company Cherchbi design, source materials and produce their bags all within the UK. Herdwyck No.10 tweed (created from the discarded wool) is used to make bags and accessories of the highest quality.
