The runway is a facade for designers to stage their vision, the strictly choreographed back-and-forth of models shinning a never-ending flow of clothes.
Louis Vuitton's New Era with Nicolas Ghesquière

One of the most longed for shows this season was Louis Vuitton’s F/W '14 collection. All eyes were on Nicolas Ghesquière as his debut for the high-end fashion label had its biannual show in Paris this past week.
Ghesquière took over as Louis Vuitton’s Creative Director in October, after Marc Jacobs’ reign for the last 16 years. Even though Ghesquière is no newcomer to the fashion industry, with 15 years at Balenciaga under his belt, the pressure was still on. With Marc Jacobs in charge at Louis Vuitton for the last decade-and-a-half, it laid the bar high for Ghesquière to reach towards.
The entire collection was packed with suede and shiny leather, and in proper Louis Vuitton fashion, there was a lot of skin to be seen on the runway. The collection included several A-line skirts, shiny high-waisted pants, and cropped sweaters.
The show was set on the very last day of Paris Fashion Week, thus also making it the last day of Fashion Month. Editors, buyers and models had been flying around the Western World for a month, and the LV show ended the stressful four weeks that occur twice a year on a positive note. The arsenal of models Ghesquière was able to land for the show was also a contributor to the show’s success with a mix of up-and-coming models and well-established, including Danish Freja Erichsen and Kenyan-born Malaika Firth.
As at any other big fashion show, especially in Paris, the front row was packed with celebrities to make the show even more spectacular. A certain Monacan royal, and Grace Kelly’s indirect protégé, Princess Charlene was present with her good friend Bernard Arnault – Chairman and CEO of LVMH, and thus Ghesquière’s employer. One could also see supermodels Natalia Vodianova and Stella Tennant, sitting down at a show for a change. The very talented acctresses Kate Mara, Chloë Sevigny and Charlotte Gainsbourg were also present. All these special elements added up to a show that was one for the books.
