For the first time, the Louis Vuitton fashion show on October 5 took place in the future home of the brand’s store, located exclusively at Paris.
The soon-to-be opened store in 2017 is at 2 Place Vendôme, combining two buildings and truly taking advantage of the famous square. The Maison Louis Vuitton captures the essence of Paris, and was the perfect spot to reveal Nicolas Ghesquière’s Spring 2017 collection for Louis Vuitton.
Creative Director Nicolas Ghesquière rightly wanted to bring his collection home, using the city as inspiration. The new Louis Vuitton collection is bold, new, and different. He used some of the same daring cut-outs as last season, but resulted with much more allure. He wanted to lean more toward experimentation, and succeeded the high-concept fashion greatly.
Before the show began, photographerSaskia Lawaks was able to document the atmosphere of the front row. Among the crowd were celebrities such as Karlie Kloss, Alicia Vikander, Léa Seydoux, Michelle Williams, Jennifer Connelly, Catherine Deneuve, and Roger Federer. Though many famous peer attended, the show also highlighted their number of Instagram followers supporting the brand.
The show opened with a series of asymmetrical, one-sleeved draped jersey dresses. These dresses seem to float as they move, inspired by the French women who populate this city. Continuing that freedom of movement were black and white polka-dot and checkerboard prints, resembling 80’s-shouldered dresses with circular cut outs at the hip and lot of crystals and glitter. The ending featured long, sheer yet discreet dresses.
With beautiful and elegant apparel, there were also sweatshirts, logo t-shirts, skinny lace pants with matching frill skirts, lace-up combat boots, and pull-on cowboy boots.
As free spirited as that all sounds, tailoring was what Ghesquière really zeroed in on. Rigorously, sharp slices with jagged angles were shown with the removal of shoulders, open backs, and extending necklines. These fabrics are cut to slant forwards, skewing future power suits of the millennial CEOs.
Nonetheless, this show is definitely most notable for the Petite Malle phone cases. As the models walked down the runway, each carried their accessorized cell phone in their hand. What Louis Vuitton fan wouldn't want to dress his/her iPhone Plus in one? Bags may have been popular last month, but they are worn-out by now. It’s time to put away your purses, and make sure not to leave the house without your designer cellphone case.
