The runway is a facade for designers to stage their vision, the strictly choreographed back-and-forth of models shinning a never-ending flow of clothes.
LOUIS VUITTON CRUISE 2015 COLLECTION

Last Saturday, fashion’s elite gathered to witness the much-anticipated LOUIS VUITTON CRUISE ’15 COLLECTION show in Monaco. NICOLAS GHESQUIÈRE, the household brand’s creative director, showcased his first cruise collection at the Palace Square. The setting was fitting for GHESQUIÈRE’s second collection for the French powerhouse, especially following Raf Simon’s Dior show in Brooklyn and Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel collection showcased in Dubai. Undoubtedly, GHESQUIÈRE's creations had to be impeccably designed to compete with his fellow mastermind designers. He did not disappoint.
Supermodels such as Liya Kebede strutted down an animated catwalk that reflected water flowing over pebbles exuding the “cruise” theme. Everyone had a front row view since the 350 A-list guests were seated around the twist and turns of the snake-like runway. But more impressive than venue was the clothing.
GHESQUIÈRE’s collection featured a mix of typical and out-of-the-box resort looks leaving the audience astounded. A series of pastel yellow and pink high-waisted trousers paired with lace and embroidered blouses echoed throughout the show. Punchy printed suites, flared dresses with scuba-inspired zippers, and seaweed-like prints were subtle reminders that it was a cruise collection. But otherwise, the resort theme did not limit GHESQUIÈRE's creativity. Leather jackets, sequins, and hints of black garments were intertwined in the collection. GHESQUIÈRE’s clothing oozed relaxation and the collection is everything that “cruise” should be.
A powerful fashion crowd was there to witness the extravaganza. Princess Charlene and Prince Albert of Monaco attended alongside celebrities such as Jennifer Connelly, Zoe Saldana, and Adèle Exarchopoulos. Anna Wintour, Emmanuelle Alt, and Louis Vuitton Chairman and CEO Michael Burke were also spotted at the exclusive event. Burke stated, “The first collection by NICHOLAS GHESQUIÈRE for LOUIS VUITTON showcases the historical relationship between our Maison and the Principality of Monaco. LOUIS VUITTON has indeed been tied to the destiny of this legendary rock for many years.”
