JIL SANDER × NENDO OBJECTEXITILE CAPSULE COLLECTION

Fashion meets design in the conceptual Nendo x Jil Sander Capsule Collection debuting during Milan Design Week. The project "Objectextile" consists of minimalist pieces that resemble the abstruse aesthetic of the Japanese studio brand– t-shirts, sneakers, a purse and bag—along with 5 dress prototypes, specially created for the exhibition's display.
Designer Oki Sato founded Nendo in 2002 and has since showcased a variety of home and interior décor. For the collaboration with the German luxury fashion house, Sato created a print that was converted into wearable forms by Jil Sander’s creative team. Grey shadows within the prints produce depth and contrast in multiple dimensions throughout the line– detail that adds a soft statement to Jil Sander's typical sleek and monochromatic designs.
The intricate prints were created by layering objects like vertical lines, squares, and dots inside square frames. The still-life arrangements were photographed and then translated into textile. The patterns were narrowed down to 5 types: check patterns made with tightly woven thread; dot patterns created from 82 pieces of floating cones; grids formed from the shadows of an aggregation of cubes; camouflages of clear and frost-finished, transparent acrylic sheeting; and stripes made from flat pillars. The prints converted the 3-dimensional into 2-dimensional, before reverting back to the 3-dimensional in the form of clothing.
The Jil Sander x Nendo Objectextile Capsule Collection will be available for purchase, alongside additional Nendo furniture pieces, in Nendo’s solo exhibition, “Nendo: Invisible Outlines,” held at the Jil Sander Showroom for Milan Design Week.
