The runway is a facade for designers to stage their vision, the strictly choreographed back-and-forth of models shinning a never-ending flow of clothes.
IRIS VAN HERPEN SS'13 COUTURE "VOLTAGE" TEASER

Since July 2011, Iris van Herpen has presented her couture collections during Paris Couture Fashion Week as an invited guest of la chamber syndicale de la haute couture. Van Herpen is known for her highly innovative and interdisciplinary approach to fashion design and incorporates the newest technologies to create covetable futuristic habiliments. Take for instance her “Cathedral Dress” from her AW’12 outing, “Hybrid Holism,” in which van Herpen pioneered a process she dubbed “mammoth stereolithography:” a 3-D printing process in which layers of liquid polymers are struck by laser beams and subsequently harden to form a stunning dress.
The SS’13 edition of Paris Fashion week is just around the corner and to wet our appetites for what van Herpen has in store for her forthcoming collection, “Voltage,” she sent us a teaser video. Geoffrey Lillemon and Joost Korngold, who represented Van Herpen’s collection through an apparition of electricity made from harp strings, directed the short. The spectre haunts the halls of a grand palace in an environment created with fragile reflective glass. Always known for collaborating with visionary artists across media, van Herpen asked sound design duo Breek (Salvador Breed and Stijn van Beek) to give the floating apparition intricate auditory accompaniments playing up the chillingly alluring harp. The hauntingly beautiful teaser has us eagerly awaiting what van Herpen has in store for her forthcoming collection January 21st.
