Gucci Partners with Recording Academy for Special Edition Timepieces

Three years ago the partnership between Gucci and The Recording Academy began with the high-end luxury brand creating special edition timepieces. Proceeds from this special collection go to The Music Preservation Program that protects and restores historical music recordings. This program digitizes original recordings that are considered essential to our cultural heritage and release the sounds for future generations to enjoy. Most recently, the Grammy Museum is working on restoring a Muzak archive of more than 20,000 never-released recordings that were found in a warehouse in South Carolina. The archive has music recordings dating back to 1930, from jazz to early spiritual. This past February, on the eve of the Grammy awards, Gucci presented its third limited edition watch, the I-Gucci Museum, designed by Gucci creative director, Frida Giannini. The watch has a large 49mm face, with a black and yellow digital display showing the time of two different time zones along with a plethora of other features such as a dual chronograph movement, a countdown timer, date, alarm, and two unique sports settings to be used when timing sailing regattas. The event also served to present the music that has been restored with the help from the Gucci Grammy Collection. “Fashion and music are really mutual and need one another,” Giannini stated at the event. Frida Giannini often gains design inspiration for the Gucci collection from music, so this was a natural step for the renowned fashion brand.
