GUCCI F/W2017 READY-TO-WEAR

Kicking off Milan fashion week, Gucci introduced its Fall-Winter 2017 ready-to-wear collection in “The Alchemist’s Garden: an anti-modern laboratory.” Septum piercings, shining hoods, oversized jewelry, glittering glasses, floral brocades, and intergalactic prints were all standout motifs from Alessandro Michele’s latest collection for the Italian fashion house. As expected, ruffled gowns and detailed embroidery were also ever present.

A central pyramid, on top of which sat a rooster weather vane, set the space for “an anti-modern laboratory,” as Michele described it. Pulsating, regal purple lighting brought guests into a mysterious and majestic world.The collection featured floral-patterned trench coats, suits, and wide-legged trousers, a nod to the Flower Power-era of the 1970’s. Michele’s well-received animals still remained an integral part of his designs, as accessories and bags served as the canvases for insects, wolves, and lions.

While the presentation was distinctly androgynous, this season marked the first time that Gucci simultaneously sent male and female models down the catwalk– an important first step into the future of Gucci, and yet another forward-stride for fashion.
