The luxury brand Bottega Veneta recently announced their collaboration with famed photographer Peter Lindbergh on their Spring-Summer ’13 ad campaign. Both mens and womens collections were shot on location at Universal Studios in Los Angeles this past October with renowned supermodel Freja Beha as the new face of Bottega Veneta. For Bottega Creative Director Tomas Maier, Peter Lindbergh was a natural choice, “This is a nuanced and diverse collection in which the crucial element is the individual who wears the clothes,” he explains. “There are few photographers who can convey the range of emotion and personality that Peter can.”
The 2013 Spring-Summer collection brings a strong yet feminine feel to the women’s line. The broad padded shoulder which gently tapers down to a narrow waist and then further narrows to a hem just below the knee creates this powerful yet delicate silhouette. The unexpected mix of materials, distinguished surface embellishments and floral patterns, lend each piece it ‘s own unique persona. With the handcrafted quality evident in the textures and details, a signature of Bottega Veneta, each garment presents character and dimension unlike any other.
The men’s collection echoes the women’s line by using the same unexpected mix of fabrics. The fusing of casual and structured pieces is the running theme through this collection. The deft use of the pull over, a more relaxed piece, is also prominent throughout. Appearing in multiple luxury fabrics the pullover is paired with casual trousers and then amplified with sharp tailoring and cavalier layering to create a playful dialogue between sportswear and sophistication.
An internationally renowned photographer and filmmaker, German born Peter Lindbergh became an influential figure in fashion photography when he started working for Italian Vogue in the late 1970’s. The majority of his images are in black and white and are immediately recognizable due to the intimacy and candor in which he captures his subjects.
Both Peter Lindbergh and Thomas Maier are on the same page when it comes to expressing their aesthetic visions. Maier explains, “We are both intrested in escaping the cliches and conventions of fashion imagery. Peter was able to strip things down to their essence, creating beautiful images that express exactly what is most important.” That of course, is the clothes and the Bottega woman who wears them.
