MAO
In this MAO PR Special, Helene brings provocative-punk to a deserted Lower East Side skatepark. As if anticipating a concert, she squints as the sun bounces uncontrollably from a pair of shimmering golden trousers. Embellishment like cave- grown stalagmites adds a sharpness to her eccentric assemblage. She lets the breeze pass through her hair as if it’s the screams of an incessantly singing crowd, barely visible through the lights of a psychedelic concert hall. As the lone skateboarder screeches by, grinding the concrete to an airborne dust, she imagines a smashing guitar. The humming murmur of the crowd quickly grows into a frantic scream. But she loses her dream-like state as a shadow is cast upon her closed eyes. The unsuspected skater approaches and they ally on the basis of attitude and spirit. Helene embraces the alternative spirit– the punk– anything that feels out of place, in the right way, whether it be a safety-pin adorned minidress or a cargo vest, like bulletproof protection, strapped around a sheer gown. Despite her military gear, she feels peace in the concrete canyon, letting the afternoon sun cast an acute, white radiance onto her skin.
