Fashion makes its way to Sochi

Although Fashion Week is probably top of mind for the masses in the fashion industry, there is another major, global event on its way - the 2014 Winter Olympics.
This time the Winter Olympics are to be held in Sochi, Russia. Soon the athletes and their country's fans will travel to the coast of the Black Sea to yet again compete for the honor and glory of their respective country.
But the fashion industry has certainly made it way through to this Olympics too. It appears particular countries become more and more fashion conscious with each passing Olympics, several countries are even now contributing to what we at TWELV are coining as Sochi Olympian Fashion Week.
The American Olympic Team gave Ralph Lauren the honor of designing their uniforms, and just like everything else Ralph makes, the uniforms are an extension of his elegancy and talent. Ralph Lauren made sure to give the Americans a patriotic uniform as possible, and there will be no doubt which athletes are American while in their uniforms when the games start in Russia next week.
Other countries are also using their fellow countrymen, as well as traditional inspiration aspects in their uniforms. The Mexican alpine skier German-born Prince Hubertus von Hohenlohe, which in fact is the only Mexican competing in this year’s Olympic Games, will be wearing a traditional Mexican flag-inspired ski suit.
Other countries that are showing off their creativity are Norway, with their curlers’ colorful suits, and the Germans with their rainbow uniforms. There is definitely going to be a lot of colors at this year’s Olympic Games, so make sure to take a break from your busy NYFW schedule to check in on Fashion Week, Sochi style.
