Erin Fetherston NYFW S/S2017 READY-TO-WEAR

The Spring-Summer 2017 collection was a markedly important season for Erin Fetherston, serving not only as her 10th Anniversary New York Fashion Week, but also as her first collection as a new mother.
A myriad of characteristic Fetherston qualities remained abundant in her designs, from whimsical, off-the-shoulder, chiffon dresses to interspersions of romantic, seemingly weightless gowns. In the otherwise quiet show, sequins shimmered down the runway in the form of a jumpsuit, slip dress, and trousers, but the true highlights of the show were the crepe suits. Presented in a champagne-toned rose and an understated lavender, as well as black and white, the suits featured a laid-back, but not unsophisticated silhouette– a quintessentially modern interpretation of Bohemian style. Fetherston also joined in on the movement of see-now-buy-now fashion, showcasing two accessories collaborations on the runway– a capsule of bohemian, crystal jewelry and styles of simple, crystal-embellished sandals– both available to purchase on their e-commerce store immediately after the show.
The collection found distinction in maternal silhouettes and an appeal to a real woman, rising to the challenge of serving the ever-changing stages and roles that a woman experiences throughout her life. Fetherston voiced her intention to move in a new direction after heavily focusing on her contemporary diffusion line ‘ERIN erin fetherston’ for the past five years. However, it seems this debut was developed with Fetherston’s contemporary label too close in consideration. The light, feminine simplicity of the collection can be appreciated, but the concluding feeling was one of being uninspired.
