Coming off of a worldwide exclusive for Saint Laurent’s SS’13 season, Caitlin Holleran (DNA) is one young beauty that should be on your radar this upcoming season. Chek Wu, Chama, & Maria Karas shot the California native in looks supplied from some of Nouveau PR’s top designer clients.
Caitilin looks ethereally innocent in Parkchoonmoo’s clean white ensemble of perforated button-down and drop crotch trousers. Korean designer Demi Park founded Parkchoonmoo in 1988 and her modern, architectural, yet fluid collections have been receiving worldwide acclaim ever since.
Irina Marinescu has been designing since 2004. She explains approaching each collection as a writer: adding new clothes and layers to tell a story about the girl in which she dresses: both real and imagined. Take for instance the emotions evoked when gazing into Caitlin’s eyes when she wears Marinescu’s gorgeous floral blazer.
Back in 1998 An Vandevorst and Filip Arickx founded A.F. Vandevorst. The Belgian label is known for its progressive clothing that propose non-conventional sartorial functions and purposes. Subtle and subversive detailing like the inverted waistline on this beige skirt and the flesh-toned sequin embellished gloves that Caitlin don, are amongst the many reasons why A. F. Vandevorst always succeed in presenting new and intriguing aesthetic statements.
The Iranian born, Los Angeles raised Dona Daneshi launched her eponymous label in 2009 with the intent of creating a timeless visual language that celebrates diverse cultural synthesis. Clothing designed with such cerebral follies can often result in inefficacious pieces that only see the light of day in editorials. However, Daneshi’s deft hands translate such an ethos into gorgeous, wearable and timeless pieces. Take for instance this embellished gown Caitlin wears: is she channeling a Medieval Rapuzel, or a post-apocalyptic gothic survivalist? However you read her habiliments, they’re truly modern garb that accentuate every aspect of Caitilin’s naturally beautiful physique.
In Not’s pink and red ensemble, these normally banally feminine hues actually elevate the once ethereal and innocent looking Caitlin (where she began in Parkchoonmo’s alabaster) into a strong and powerful fashion force to be reckoned with. New to the fashion scene, Jenny Lai founded Not in her New York studios in 2011 with the purpose to transform the act of dressing into a performance of heightened self-awareness.
While Siki Im has been presenting his lauded collections at New York Fashion week since the SS'10 season under the guise of menswear, the designer's innate desire to use his clothing to bend the rigid strucutres imposed upon us by society make his clothing quintessentially unisex. Inspired by philosopher Michele Foucault, artists Tatiana Trouve and Agnes Martin, and architecture, Im creates impeccably tailored suits, leather jackets, trousers, and skirts that maintain integrity solely to silhouette by rigorous fabric research and manipulation. Take for instance the strength exuded from Caitlin in this draped tank and floor swooping maxi skirt.
