Dazed Kids New York
’Dazed Kids New York’, ‘Don't Knock New York’, ‘Designers Know Nothing Yet’. Slogans printed across looks from the A/W2016 collection, DKNY stepped up the game, proving the brand still has plenty to show. Marking the second collection since Public School’s Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow took creative direction, the design pair is clearly bringing back some energy into the brand. Cool kids of New York, be ready!
The A/W17 collection is a brilliant marriage of soft street and deconstructed high fashion, and the message is simple: DKNY is New York, and wearing the brand is being wrapped in the sleepless city’s atmosphere. This is where TWELV offers to take you with this editorial– into the heart of Soho, a youth hype spot of the city.
Here we meet a lackadaisical girl as she slowly starts her day in the unusually deserted streets of Soho. She slowly awakens, coming out of a dreamy fog, and allows us to glimpse into her mind– what is she thinking?
As the hours pass by and the night is getting closer, the girl takes back control of her own energy. Her body synchronizes with her mind. She is young and wants to have fun, surrounded by New York’s familiar architectural lines. The New York lines of an architect’s sketch can be seen in the brushstrokes of her makeup, an interlacing poetry.
TWELV’s DKNY dazed kids embody New York, a city for youthfulness. The need to embrace a mix of seriousness and fun, laziness and excitement, all in order to explore one’s inner self while exploring the city that never sleeps. New York is more than a city– it is a feeling– the feeling that DKNY cool kids can’t die.
