"I have always been interested in getting my work out into the world," said artist Chris Martin in a promotional video shot for his collaboration with Dior, entitled "Dior Lady Art." Along with six other modern American and British artists– namely Ian Davenport, Mat Collishaw, Jason Martin, Marc Quinn, Daniel Gordon, and Matthew Porter– Chris Martin was given carte blanche to imagine a new design for the iconic Lady Dior bag. After all, there are few ways better than a purse to get art into the street and into the eyes of others.
The seven designers also created accessories– key ring, charms, card holders, scarves, and evening clutches. Dior’s clientele is provided with endless means to embracing their own Lady Dior. The inspiration was split between nature– flowers and butterflies– and by the city, which featured assorted graphics of cars, one for any kind of Dior Lady. Colorful, shining, and black and white motifs seem to play on the garments, bringing an incredibly modern sense of texture to the Dior Lady Art collection.
Fashion and art have always had a close, yet tricky relationship, but this new collaboration shows that the two can achieve unbelievable beauty when brought together as one. After launching for Art Basel in Miami, the collection is now available at Dior’s pop-up boutique on Rodeo Drive. It will then travel to London, China, Dubai and finally Paris. Wherever you are, be ready to adore.
