Hogan McLaughlin has already titillated the fashion community with his collaboration with his muse Daphne Guinness and produced pieces for Lady Gaga's "Born This Way Ball". Hogan's quintessential woman exudes a classic kind of glamour stemmed from his inspiration from Nordic and Celtic mythology. His collection is manufactured in Chicago, where his studio is based and his friend, Branimira Ivanova, is responsible for translating his designs into patterns.
For the gowns, the designer began with a breastplate motif that appears on quite a few of the garments. His signature look for utilizing a darker color palette has been updated to now embrace a white palette—so much so that everything is lined in it. "I wanted to play with proportions this time around so in addition to implementing corsetry that can cinch one's waist to 16/17 inches, I added these exaggerated hip pieces to further emphasize that on pieces like the white ball gown shown. The charcoal-colored silk-lame gown (on the stairs) was probably one of the more blatant homage to the "Game of Thrones" character, Margaery Tyrell played by actress Natalie Dormer, evident in the plunging neckline and exposed back," explains McLaughlin. Moreover, the gown also has an elaborate long train, ideal for a finale piece. The white robe gown is another nod to medieval and fantasy, while adding the modern twist of a low neckline. The gown in the forest is a bit different from the rest of the collection— it is less structured and much more fluid. It is comprised of a white chiffon robe/vest and an "armored" leather corset worn over it. The corset has the same function, structure and details that the other pieces have, however the chiffon takes the look aesthetically into different territory.
The first teaser images were released on April 22, in anticipation of a mid-May full release of images from the full collection. There will be a short film, with a collaborative soundtrack by German black metal artist, Ruin, which is scheduled to be released at the end of May.
