BURBERRY PRORSUM F/W2015 Ready-to-Wear

Prorsum literally means “forward” in latin, but Burberry is taking beautiful steps back in time with its Fall RTW collection displayed at London Fashion Week. CEO/Creative Director Christopher Bailey has infused the brand with a bohemian sensibility, embracing earth tones, fringe, bold patterns, and other design elements insinuating wanderlust and freedom of expression.
The collection is decidedly 60’s, riffing on the iconic styles of period legends such as Joni Mitchell and Jimi Hendrix. This throwback sensibility is not unique this season, however, materializing in Miu Miu Pre-Fall15 and Saint Laurent - who even used Joni Mitchell in their ad campaign.
Entitled “Patchwork, Pattern, and Prints,” the collection includes thigh-high suede boots, elegant patterned dresses, draping fringe-accented shawls, and fresh takes on Burberry’s iconic trench coat. According to style.com, Bailey takes particular pride in the heirloom quality of these coats, working to create similar durability and staying power in the new pieces. Notable looks include an oversized blue shearling coat paired with the ubiquitous patched-suede boots, and a large oxblood fringe coat paired with a sheer blue dress.
Models moseyed down the runway as British singer Clare Maguire treated the audience and famous attendees (Sam Smith, Naomi Cambpell, Kate Moss, and Jourdan Dunn) to tunes like “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” and “House Of The Rising Sun.” All that was missing was barefoot, acid-tripping hippies dancing to the music, but hey, maybe next year.
