The Bucolic Life of pas de calais F/W2014 Collection

During New York fashion week TWELV had the honor of viewing the exquisite and sophisticated F/W 14 collection of Japanese label, pas de calais. Known for its fusion of minimalism and simplicity, designer Yukari Suda exuded her organic vision through every piece presented.
We spoke to the designer on her inspirations for this fall’s collection. Suda states, “I wanted to create pieces that bring a sense of nostalgia for a past place and times when things were simple; goat fur in sun burnt colors, painterly silk evocative of thin trees, and alpaca with worn in softness.” The brilliance behind her pieces included wool dresses in watercolor patterns from Suda’s own paintings, masculine trousers and vests with a tailored slim fit, and fur collar outwear.
pas de calais represents the ideal of bringing luxury and grace into existence and transcending fashion to its purest form. The bucolic life -- rural living in an omission of life’s excesses -- served as the color and material inspiration. Brick reds, absinth green, sheer ivories, and midnight blues are seen in wools, Khadi, washed cottons, thin cashmeres and linens.
The nostalgic ambience of the presentation was exceptional as every model shined and boldly stood out between the white walls and open space. It evoked the effortless elegance of nature, originality of modern design, and the importance of comfort and versatility within every style. The texture and palpability of each piece defines a sense of beauty that is raw and abstract.
The collection arrives at select luxury retailers and the pas de calais New York flagship (SoHo) in September 2014.
