Björk Wears a Custom Gucci Masterpiece in "The Gate"

The genius of Björk, if we can condense it, is her ability to enable the human voice to express in sound what cannot be put into words. And it’s always more than just music, but rather a complete work of art with fashion, graphics, cinematography, even philosophy. Sometimes she speaks with pristine, wintery clarity, and finds a home in an icy neo-kimono designed by Alexander McQueen. Other times, she chants in wistful, warbling crescents, running through the scenes of Lars von Trier and donning the famous swan ensemble of Marjan Pejoski.
With her latest lunar opera entitled “The Gate,” Björk finds a way to make old themes new. The uncanny melding of humans and machines, explored so beautifully through her take on “All is Full of Love,” returns in a meshing harmony of silk, steel, and opalescence. The video marks the first single from her upcoming album, Utopia, set to release this November.
And this time, the linchpin of it all is a stunning, custom-made Gucci dress by Alessandro Michele. It certainly works on the visual level with translucent, stiffened pleats accentuating an airy, sheath-cut silhouette, fitting perfectly into the kaleidoscopic visuals, courtesy of Director Andrew Thomas Huang. According to the Gucci Instagram, it took an astonishing 550 hours to craft the dress from meters-on-end of iridescent PVC plastic and lurex organza. Not to mention an additional 320 hours just for the embroidery! Watch the full video below:
