Balenciaga’s Spring 20 collection is made up of formal and practical attire with the ability to play between the two. Think two- and three-piece sets to create an ease and structure to getting dressed. Paired for you, all in matching material including bags to essentially do it all for you. Thank you, Balenciaga, for not allowing me to surrender to my indecisively.
It’s all about dressing for power. Endless oversized and the best bit; padded shoulders galore. Boxy has never looked so good. The suiting and jackets in this collection are statement yet practical. Think men in black to a more literal sense. The jackets and sunglasses trend create a sense of mystery and allure to the dresser. Parkas are fastened to one side, or intently, daringly and seductively cinched at the waist with strappings, which multifunction as phone holders. The ongoing implements of ease and practicality for us phone addicted dressers are much appreciated. The coat styles are made along the idea of both indoor and outdoor use being easily available. Almost creating this concept of wearing nothing but the parka. One could. And one should.
Elements and pops of colour are also a big feature in the Spring 20 collection. And I thought I couldn’t fall any harder in love. Bright blue tights and floral patterns are sneaking their way through under grey and black suiting. One can’t ignore the perfect oversized green jacket and pink earring look for the most un incognito spy mission of the century. There is a grand juxtaposition of the dark suiting to dresses ordained in print and wording, bringing in a nostalgia of the 70s with patent knee high white boots. A big polka dot jacket will give you a double take of Cruella du Vil but in a good way. Ignoring her adoration for harming cute puppies that woman had some great style inspiration. Balenciaga clearly agrees.
Accessories do not fall a miss with this collection. The hourglass bag is shown with metallic etched in while the shoes see mules and thong heels paired with a squared off toe. No horses are needed to play with a stirrup legging and Balenciaga taught us this. In this collection one can see an updated version of their classic stirrup leggings where they extend even further around the foot creating a new and exciting shape.
Overall the evening and day wear littered, in a good way, with suiting is easy. Effortless, even with the meticulous and immaculate structuring.
The spring 20 sees an everyday wardrobe, relaxed styled looks draped with couture details. Allowing one to exude elegance and power in their day to day structure. The ability to do everything one desires in a day without the need to change or run home to rework a single piece in your look.
