An airy light streaks shadows across the neo-retro designs of Phillip Lim’s Spring-Summer 2017 collection. The designer’s extra tough, moto-rockstar influence is ever present in the never-ending tracks of heavy-duty, parachute-ready zippers and familiar leathers, romantically pinpointed with silver studs. Ewa Wladymiruk muses in the window light, fusing nonchalant, carefree surf with a tangle of futuristic cowboy style. Space-like python hugs her body as the matte black fabric of a flight jacket is pulled into technical pleating. Flirtatious and unconcerned, she peers from behind curiously-rounded aviator glasses, epitomizing a confident, movie star-like composure. This reimagined retro is grounded by Ewa’s classic denim and effortless allure. Framed in a picturesque, morning light, the daydreamy laze ceases with the playfully sharp crunch of a potato chip, an abrupt cut back to reality, like a movie set clapperboard slamming closed.
