THE STREETERS #54
It’s been a brutal winter, but spring has finally begun cautiously exercising its pleasant influence. The fashion on the streets, however, is still indicative of the cold that we’ve all become so accustomed to by this point. Oversized coats of various textures and hues, carefully conceived layers and boots are still running the scene. Twelv hit the NYC mean streets with a camera and a notebook to capture the trends of the moment before everything adapts to the impending warmer weather.
Model/student Richie Cotterell kept things simple with a large pea coat/turtleneck combo, creating some dramatic contrast with gleaming white velcro sneakers. Graphic designer Bolt Brown embraced the always-chic biker/punk aesthetic, pairing a zipper clad black leather jacket with waist-tied gray hoodie and skinny jeans. I have a feeling that we’ll soon be seeing much more of this grunge-centric style, especially as a result of Saint Laurent’s punk rock influenced Paris Fashion Week showing.
We saw all different color combinations from Jordan Murray’s monochromatic ensemble to Olya’s playful lime green fur coat and light washed blue denim shorts. Fashion photographer Djiun Wang showed off his classically sharp blazer/jeans look while Kate Mccraor dazzled with her throwback 50’s sensibility and fire-red hairstyle.
Winter fashion is admittedly tons of fun, but I think we’re all ready for beach weather. Enjoy the flashy outerwear and funky layers while they last, because soon enough we’ll be seeing shorts and tank tops!
