Skingraft F/W2014 READY-TO-WEAR

In the coal black night, all was chaos, as if someone or something had disrupted the spirits of the dead. In a dark and mysterious way, the passing of unseen winds and spirits emerged from the midst and pushed into the night. This sense of drama and change were transpired and presented through creative director Jonny Cota as he made his runway debut for Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week.
Cota said the inspiration was “The idea of drastic climate change and an inevitable return to a dystopian survivalist future.” Out of the gloom emerged a bold presentation where Skingraft’s aesthetic was embraced and delivered through its Alpha collection. The runway consisted of heavy layers of knits, leather and wool in dark shades of indigo, olive and black. Bomber jackets and edgy leather coats were paired with baggy pants, kilt skirts, moto skirts, quilted crossover coats, and oversized outwear with large hoods.
Models strutted down the runway as if they were an invisible threat to the crowd. The art of the all-black ensemble can be difficult to create, however, Skingraft has mastered it.
In addition, TWELV had the opportunity to go backstage before the show for exclusive behind-the-scene footage. We got up close and personal with models from the show as they got ready for the runway. The show featured hair by Jon Reyman for AVEDA, make up by Sarah Lucero for STILA, nails by Patricia Yankee for Patrcia Nail Lacquer, styling by Masha Orlov, music by Jonny Cota.
