A story of dark romance and strength plays out before your eyes when perusing Miuccia Prada’s Autumn/Winter designs. Your imagination will begin to ignite with an Edwardian flare; on dimly lit streets you will feel a chill in the air playfully balanced by the warmth of lush fabrics, or perhaps, you are rushing off in a stagecoach on the way to a dinner party at a neighboring manor.
The Miu Miu woman displays a reserved sexuality in Prada’s designs, enticing and playful with a dark elegance. Over and over we see dark coats with large button, belt, and zipper embellishments, yet, each is unique and breathtaking in its own right. Pops of color in neckerchiefs and stockings paired with each design added a feminine touch to the strong feel of the enchanting coats. Parkas, bomber jackets, and coats sashay down Miu Miu’s runway in rich blues, blacks, greens, and the fabulous occasional pop of orange or pink. Paired with most of the designs are playful purses. Prada has chosen to offset the sleekest of tube dress silhouettes with large statement bags.
Adding the youthful feel of the collection, Prada has used stripes and polka dots to elongate silhouettes and add dimension to the narrowest of pieces. Pairing the dark and embellished coats with striped skirts of varying color gave the feeling of a carnivale-esque experience. There is no shortage of wonder in each look that came down the runway, each telling its own story of a dark romance. And of course, there are the shoes! Playing into the young energy of the designs, Miu Miu’s shoes add another level to the play on proportion presented in the looks- thick heels and tractor soles compliment the strength of the coats while balancing the femininity of colorful tube dresses. The Miu Miu girl can be defined, through this collection, by mischief, romance and strength.
